The Ginásio Clube Português (GCP), founded in 1875, played an innovative role in physical and sports activities. After 150 years of existence, still is a reference in Portuguese National Sport System and pioneer in the concept of a club with sports, social and cultural purposes.
It is a highly recognized nationally and internationally club because of its important contribution to sports and physical activity. With almost 150 years of history, GCP is today a club with a large dimension, already having great importance in social and health terms, thus entering other areas of intervention.
With about 50 different activities and sports, it is one of the most eclectic club in Portugal and one of the oldest. Associated with modernity and permanent updating is characterized by being a first-rate club in training, competition and representation and in the area of Exercise and Health.
Under the motto Applying Scientific Research in the Life-Course Analysis of Exercise, Health and Sports Performance, the GCP Lab is a center of innovation and collaboration between researchers, health professionals, coaches and exercise physiologists, aiming to respond to the needs raised by both the Department of Sports Training and the Department of Exercise and Health.
The Erasmus+ Programme aims to support the education, the youth and the sports at european level, fostering the collaboration between sports organisations in all Europe. This programme is focused on social inclusion, ecological and digital transitions and the promoting the young people’s participation in democratic life, through the implementation of projects financed by the European Commission.
The objective of these projects is the social responsibility in sports organisations, but also to promote their international strengthening and broaden their scope of action, create new job prospects for their human resources, provide new and better work, teaching and action tools, and also encourage these sports organisations to develop new methods and operational models.
GCP is currently carrying out some funded ERASMUS+ Projects which are focus on sport, physical and mental wellness. Since 2019 our project team integrated in several ERASMUS+ PROJECTS:
And in 2023 we built a new team for an ambitious phase for ERASMUS+ Projects. We are currently participing in the some projects and a new challenge as coordinators: the project SAME SAME (2023-2025). In 2024 GCP will be included in some new projects. So stay tuned for what´s comes next!
